REBUILD/EXTENSION >

MALVERN FINCH ST

The renovation and extension of this house was a major project. The house had been extensively altered in the 1950's and divided into apartments, with two staircase, kitchens, numerous bathrooms and entrances.

The house was stripped back to its original bones, the secondary rear lean-tos demolished and then extensively remodelled to give contemporary living spaces for a family of five children.

All of the additions and refits were of a strong, direct scale, refocusing the house to the northern aspect of the block, creating folding walls that blurred the boundary between inside and out and provided flexible accommodation for the growing family.

The style of the house externally was governed by the heritage classification, but internally is streamlined and contemporary
