COASTAL/RURAL >

COASTAL

The design of this house was essentially a response to the magnificent sea views to the south and the exploitation to northern sun penetration to living and sleeping areas.

The brief for the house included the requirement to provide vehicular access to the more elevated living and bedroom areas so that provisions could be effortlessly dropped off at this level without having to climb stairs with heavy loads. This level is constructed in lightweight materials with recycled timber cladding which will gradually become grey.

Garaging, water tanks, plant and storage have been located at the masonry lower level where access to views was not so important. A sheltered pool area has also been provided in the courtyard for days when it is too windy to go to the beach.
