BARWON HEADS

Sheltered from all but the harshest of weather by dunes and cliff top ti-tree scrub, the house embraces the potential for private enclosed spaces within.

Reflecting the beauty and ruggedness of its environment, the house is the space between a heavy earth-like base and a floating roof, the interior and exterior defined by a fine curtain of glass.

Characterized by local materials; natural timbers, concrete with exposed local aggregates and rammed earth walls; the house is pitched like a tent on the dunes. The roof wraps and folds over the internal spaces providing shelter, solar control and natural ventilation.
